Ashville moved one point closer to the playoffs on Tuesday evening with a goalless draw at Runcorn Town
It was a hard fought game between the sides on a difficult surface which resulted in the ball being in the air more than it was on the ground, making chances hard to come by for both sides but the game wasn’t without its drama
Brad Shearwood & Connor Courtnell both saw half chances come and go in the first 25 minutes whilst a free kick from the hosts sailed harmlessly over the bar
Runcorn should of been ahead on 38 minutes but Tom Ruffer fired a half volley off the bar from 8 yards out
Ashville would also hit the bar just moments later with Madden’s cross turned looping shot before Peter Morgan curled the rebound just wide
Villa were just inches away from breaking the deadlock with around 20 minutes to go when Joel Kelly’s low drive squirmed under Danny Hamlett and looked as though it may of crossed the line but Hamlett recovered just in time to prevent an opening goal
Adam Sunners received his second yellow card in stoppage time to sum up a frustrating evening for Ashville where a win would of taken them into the playoff positions ahead of Eccleshall’s game at Wolverhampton Sporting Community on Wednesday.
Ashville now travel to newly crowned champions Winsford United on Saturday in a must win game to keep their playoff hopes alive
