Ashville Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of prolific striker, Mark Madden, from FC Bootle.

The 28 year old is no stranger to Ashville, having played for the club in a short spell during our first season in the NWCFL. The former Sefton & Merseyside Schoolboys youngster also spent time at 6 time European champions, Liverpool, alongside local EFL League 2 side Tranmere Rovers. The striker has also spent time with AFC Liverpool & Maghull before his most recent club, FC Bootle.

Madden has won many awards during his career including a League Player Of The Year, Golden Boot awards and in recent seasons has thrice been named Players’ Player Of The Year. The strikers quality has been there for all to see throughout his career to date, even gaining attention from across the pond when he was offered a scholarship to play in the USA. When asked by the clubs media which award meant most to him, Madden came back with a truly heartwarming answer; “My dad being proud of me tops the lot”.

Madden has been an Ashville target under the last few management regimes and he opened up about his journey back to Villa; “I found a message recently, I first got asked to sign for Ashville in 2018. The legendary Steve Murphy put a lot of faith in me and always wanted me to sign. I always said to him that I hoped I’d be back some day.” It was the signing of another pivotal figure in Mark’s career which finally got the needle moving however, “Steve Scott the current manager is one of my best mates. He’s helped become the player I am today. When he signed on as manager and spoke to me, I knew this is where I wanted to play. I turned a few clubs down to be here because everything feels right. I loved playing here before and it felt like the right time to come back”. Mark then explained that it wasn’t just the manager courting for his signing; “I’ve got to give a shout out to Ian Towers & Aaron Coombes, they’ve been asking me weekly to sign and it’s paid off!”.

With the squad being largely the same as his last stint at the club, Mark knows exactly what to expect from his (sort of) new teammates and the club as a whole; “The club is class. They are everything I am about, close knit and hard working. All the lads have been class with me since I was last here, we always stayed in touch. I think we have a talented group and should be looking to go as high as we possibly can”. The familiarity with his manager also has given Madden a great idea of what to expect in the season ahead stating “The manager, I don’t know what I can say. He will push this club on, he will push for every ounce out of every player. There is a reason I’ve followed him. I’d die for him on the pitch! I think the fans will love him. The striker is also looking forward to working with new assistant manager, Glynn Hurst. “Shoutout to Glynn too, I’ve always wanted to play for him and I’m glad I’ve got the chance now!”.

Madden is as humble as he is hard working and that humility was on full display when he thanked those who helped get this deal over the line; “I want to thank the club, they’ve always been first class with me. Especially the lads and Ian. I’ve always felt welcome and I am so happy to commit my future here. I hope we have a long and happy future. Thanks also has to go to Steve Scott who has constantly made me a better player. Thank you to my partner and son too for giving me the encouragement to be the best version of myself on and off the pitch and I can’t wait for them to be welcomed into the Villa family”.

Our new signing also had a message for the fans; “I can’t wait to get going. I’ve seen how you follow the team home and away. I can’t wait to meet you all! I promise to give every ounce I’ve got for the mighty Ashville and for you, the Faithful. Let’s go as high as we can and make history. I want to make you proud like I’m proud to play for this special team. UP THE VILLA!

First team manager, Steven Scott, had this to say on the signing of Madden; “Mark’s a great lad, my best mate and one hell of a player. He missed a year through injury but once we get him flying again he’ll be a standout player”.

Everyone at Ashville welcomes Mark and his family into the club with open arms and we can’t wait to see our brand new signing out on the pitch.
