This week the first team returned to begin their first pre-season schedule under Steven Scott & Glynn Hurst. Faces old and new attended the first two sessions on Tuesday & Thursday this week with a handful of trialists joining new signing Mark Madden and the vast majority of last season’s squad excluding those still on holiday or injured.
Skipper Shaun Farrall was back in his training gear as he continues his recovery from the hamstring injury he sustained at the end of last season. Lewis Moynes was another player returning from injury, the winger looked sharp in this first week back and can hopefully remain injury free in this campaign.
This weeks sessions were a mix of activation, fitness, ball work and match scenario training giving the squad a well rounded balance of activities as preparations for the new season continue. At Tuesday’s session I managed to grab hold of Glynn Hurst during the warm down and he shared his goals for the squad over these sessions with the former EFL stalwart stating “I have a process I take with me everywhere I go and I’m introducing the lads to this process. We want to create a style of play to get the best out of this team because it’s a talented squad”. Glynn led the majority of the session which revolved around a variety of stations which tested the squads fitness, ball control and decision making.
Thursday’s session was based around match scenarios, patterns of play, build up play, decision making and teamwork. There wasn’t a lot to report from this session as it was more of a session to ease the lads back into having a ball at their feet and getting those holiday cobwebs well and truly dusted off.
Overall, it’s been a good first week back. It’s been great to see Ste and Glynn taking charge of their first sessions and it’s been great to see the lads again. Our annual awards evening & family fun day is up next on Saturday (15th June) before the second week of pre-season gets underway.
