Ashville made it back to back wins with an impressive 4-0 victory over Wolverhampton Sports at Ray Parker Stadium.
The hosts wasted little time laying the first blow, taking the lead after just 7 minutes. A well taken close range finish from Peter Morgan who scored for the second consecutive game following his beautiful curled effort against Cheadle Heath Nomads on Monday evening.
Ashville were determined to take advantage of their visitors leaky defence and landed the second blow on 19 minutes. It was Morgan again who brilliantly nutmegged a defender inside the area after some smart work down the left by the home side before showing his composure to place his shot beyond Cooksey and into the bottom corner.
After the second goal the game evened out a bit but it was Ashville providing all the goalmouth action. Tom Hewlett drawing a good save from Cooksey after being fed in by Morgan.
The second half started as the first ended with Ashville pushing hard to extend their lead but being met by resistance from the Wolves midfield. The first chance of note in the second period didn’t come until the 75th minute when Joe Dulson nearly scored a screamer. The teenager letting rip from long range and Cooksey could only watch and hope as it flew marginally past the upright.
With ten minutes left to play the visitors were reduced to 10 men as Alex Jones received a second yellow card for a late challenge on returning substitute Lewis Moynes.
Ashville only needed three minutes to take advantage of the extra man when substitute, Junior Siyakhowla Fani, smashed a low effort beyond Cooksey for his first competitive Ashville goal.
And with only three minutes left on the clock the home side were awarded a penalty. Joel Dulson stepped up and sent Cooksey the wrong way to wrap up the victory before being substituted off with Tuesday’s home game against Barnton in mind.
The positives for Ashville didn’t stop there as this game saw the return of some fan favourites from injury. Shaun Farrall started the game at centre back before Lewis Moynes & Josh Maldon came on as second half substitutes. With 6 more games still to play this month, Ashville certainly have plenty of squad depth to call upon during this gruelling stretch of fixtures.
Ashville are next in action at home to Barnton on Tuesday evening in a 7:45pm kick off.
