Ashville bounced back from Tuesday’s agonising defeat against Barnton with a hard fought 1-0 win away at Eccleshall in a fiery affair.

Ashville started brightly when Joel Kelly played in Lewis Moynes but the electric winger couldn’t divert his first time shot past Rhys Williams in the Eccleshall goal after just two minutes.

The first 5 minutes were all Ashville as the visitors looked to make amends for Tuesday’s home defeat. Junior Siyakhowla Fani was the latest player to try his luck on four minutes when he too saw an attempt end up in the hands of Williams.

The game then evened out into a battling midfield back and forth with neither side taking control. A smart save from Owen on the half hour mark keeping the scores level.

Villa started the second half as brightly as they started the first, Josh Maldon this time being the one to force a good save from Williams to prevent the Ashville midfielder from scoring a beauty.

Just before the half hour mark and Moynes was troubling the Eccy defense again. Connor Rowlands turned his marker inside out before finding Moynes with a cross that the winger hit over with a first time volley.

With just under 20 minutes to go and Villa finally broke the deadlock. Jamie Owen’s deep free kick found Mark Madden with the former Tranmere man heading it down for Lewis Moynes who took advantage of a high bounce to nod it over Williams.

After the goal the game became a bit heated with tempers flaring after some less than friendly challenges. An elbow from an Eccleshall player was deemed to only be a yellow card offence as the officials battled to keep a lid on things.

Ten minutes after taking the lead Ashville nearly got a second when Joel Dulson fired a low effort across Williams, the hosts goalkeeper getting just enough on the shot to help it onto the post.

The game petered out with some fantastic game management from Ashville to secure another 3 points and a return to winning ways for the Wallasey based side as they push up the table towards the play off positions. Ashville are next in action on Tuesday night when they welcome Runcorn Town to Ray Parker Stadium in a 7:45pm kick off
