It was a winning return for Ashville on Saturday as they dispatched New Mills at Ray Parker Stadium

Villa controlled the game from the off and following a couple of near misses they finally got their lead on 14 minutes. A free kick on the left was fired towards the back post where Jono Cahill rose highest to knock the ball into the patch of Kasey Smith with the defender oozing panache as he found the top corner with ease.

The lead was doubled on the half hour mark when Peter Morgan teed up an onrushing Lewis Moynes who took a touch before leathering his shot beyond Oldham at his near post like a laser guided missile.

It took Ashville only 10 minutes to wrap the game up in the second half. Morgan’s deflected shot gifting the home side a corner which they duly converted. The corner was swung into the 6 yard box and Smith was there once again to guide the ball into the net making it 3-0 and game over.

And bar a brilliant save from Jamie Owen following a long range drive from the visitors, the second half passed without incident and Ashville saw out the victory with professionalism and confidence.

The win takes Ashville back into the playoff places with just 14 games remaining. Villa will now travel to Barnton and Foley Meir prior to Christmas before welcoming Cammell Laird 1907 to Ray Parker Stadium in a Boxing Day derby
