Ashville Football Club are delighted to confirm the signing of highly rated young centre back Matty Scoullar, pending international clearance.

The 23 year old was most recently at Welsh side Flint Mountain where he was released at his request last week.

Scoullar is no stranger to NWCFL football as the youngster can count this weekends opponents, Barnton, amongst his former clubs alongside Skelmersdale United, Prestatyn Town, Prescot Cables and Runcorn Town.

Matty has a vast wealth of experience despite his tender age and even has an FA Cup goal to his name during his time at Skem when he was just 17, the moment he considers his proudest in his young career.

Steven Scott has finally gotten his man after months of persuasion and as Scoullar reveals, he almost joined the club in the summer: “Scotty and me spoke over the summer and I very nearly joined the club then but for me the timing wasn’t quite right”.

The former Barnton man is no stranger to Ashville and has plenty of experience playing at Villa Park so he knows what he’s signing up for: “I’ve played here a few times against Ashville for Barnton and it’s always been a tough place to come so it will be nice to be on the other side of that now”. His first impressions of the club still managed to impress him however with the defender stating: “Committee and club are in a fantastic position and the lads have all been so welcoming, I’m really looking forward to the challenge”.

When asked about what exactly it was that eventually persuaded Scoullar to join the Villa, our latest recruit had this to say: “Scotty ultimately was the biggest factor, we’ve built up a great relationship so far and that will only get better now. The whole club is buzzing and thriving at the moment and an environment like this is always what you want to be part of”. Scoullar continued: “The position the club are in was also a huge factor, fighting for playoffs and still in with a chance of winning the Edward Case Cup.”

Scoullar also praised the Ashville faithful saying they made the decision a no brainer: “The excellent support the club has as well is great to see and the sort of community I want to be part of”. Our newest defender hopes to make his new fans proud during his time in an Ashville jersey: “I hope to do them all proud and you can expect 100% effort from me in every game. Headers, tackles, everything. I look forward to meeting them all as a friend this time, rather than a foe as it has been previously”.

Matty wasn’t holding back when asked about his ambitions for the season:” The ambitions have to be play offs at a minimum. The lads have done a fantastic job so far to get in the position they’re in and I hope to add to that. Play offs have to be the ambition but we’ll take it game by game.”

Welcome to Ashville, Matty Scoullar!
