Ashville began 2025 with an entertaining goalless draw away at Wolverhampton Sporting Community in a game where the visitors will feel they should have come away with 3 points.
Villa dominated the first half and saw the first real opportunity of the game fall their way after just 6 minutes when Joel Kelly forced a save from a tight angle after breaking in behind the defence.
A solid, composed performance restricted the home side to long range half chances for the most part but avoided a close call in the 16th minute when a well worked free kick down the right hand side was fizzed across the six yard box, narrowly missing the targets in the centre.
Ashville would have the ball in the back of the net just after half time but play was brought back for an offside.
The hosts struck back with a chance of their own which saw Connor Courtnell block an effort on the line from a couple of yards out.
Just before the hour the best chance of the game fell to Lewis Moynes who flicked a long ball over the Wolves keeper which looked destined to go in but the ball came back off the post and the follow up was blocked by an excellent recovery challenge.
A couple more half chances for both sides fell to the wayside as a more competitive second half reached its conclusion without a winning goal.
Ashville can now turn their attention to their Edward Case Cup quarter final tie at home to Euxton Villa in a fortnights time. Ashville host the Blackpool outfit at Ray Parker Stadium on Saturday 1st February in a 3pm kick off.
